Actor-producer JD Majethia on the deluge of comedy shows on the telly and Navjot Singh Sidhu!
Actor-producer JD Majethia on the deluge of comedy shows on the telly and Navjot Singh Sidhu!Modesty seems to be television producer-actor JD Majethia's second name. JD has a distinct place for Ahmedabad in his heart, where he plans to open an acting academy. "I am going to explore the talent that the city has. I hope my plan succeeds," says the fun-loving Gujju guy. So why hasn't he done anything to revive Gujarati theatre or improve the state of Gujarati films? "I was a part of both and I feel sad for the state both are in. But I have made efforts by acting in films. I did the film Dariya Chhoru recently and even bagged the best actor award for it. While I like doing theatre a lot, perhaps more than TV, it's just at this point in time I am too involved with television. That doesn't allow me the time to do anything else," he says.
Talking about comedy, he says, that this genre is tough. And the deluge of comedy shows on television doesn't help much in improving the quality of their content."The quality of humour in comedy shows these days has come down. These shows are doing well because people haven't been exposed to better humour on TV. I can't understand how a witty person like Navjot Singh Sidhu can behave so weirdly on his show. He doesn't seem to know when is a good time to laugh. Even the contestants on his show don't seem to know good jokes. Can somebody explain what is the need to crack a joke on Sidhu?" he asks. This explains why JD hopes to do "standup comedy" in the near future. Well, let's watch out for JD in his next avatar!
